Rosette

The classical medallion — petals in carved-stone order.

The rosette — a stylized open flower in perfect radial symmetry — has ornamented architecture since Mesopotamia: ceiling bosses, furniture paterae, cathedral rose windows. It's the default pattern in the SuperFabLab studio because it does what classical ornament does best: dignify whatever it's attached to.

About the rosette pattern

A rosette differs from a mandala in restraint — fewer rings, bolder petals, a figure you take in at once rather than explore. That makes it the right scale of ornament for hardware-adjacent work: gate centers, door medallions, ceiling roses, the lid of a box that wants to feel finished.

Petals share edges with concentric structure so the medallion cuts as one piece even at fine bar widths. Scale sets the medallion diameter, rotation clocks the petals, and the circle and octagon panel outlines turn it into a true architectural rosette blank.
