Shoji are the translucent paper screens that organize Japanese interiors, their thin wooden grids dividing soft light into calm rectangles. As a cut-metal pattern, shoji keeps that proportional serenity — wide, quiet openings and clean lines — while gaining the permanence of steel.
About the shoji pattern
Where Western grids tend toward squares, shoji kumi-zan favor standing rectangles in gentle ratios, which is what gives the screens their composed, vertical calm. The pattern works anywhere you want order without density — it covers a panel with the least visual noise of any lattice here.
The generous openings make this the most forgiving pattern to cut: thick plate, fast plasma work, and small hobby setups all handle it cleanly. Use scale to set the pane size and bar width to move between a delicate screen and a bold timber-frame read. Pair it with a frosted acrylic backer and it even glows like the real thing.
